Elizabeth Ann Outram 1864 c.1960
Born in the U.K, she migrated to New South Wales.
She is recorded as exhibiting a landscape in the Hunter
River Agriculture and Horticulture Show in 1891. By
1896 she was a member of the W.A Society of Arts.
She also taught art at Hale Boys School and for a Miss
Bests Art School. Outrams and Mary Creeths art was
used to illustrate the Western Mail in 1898. Various
Exhibitions in the late 19th Century and the early 20th
Century list her exhibiting works. She moved to New
Zealand sometime after 1925.

Art Gallery of Western Australia 1979.
As item numbers; 161, 156, 157, 160 and 153. Item (i)
is not illustrated.
A very rare suite of six watercolours depicting known
Perth buildings c.1890s signed E.A.O.
(i)H. Arnold, Swan River Boating Establishment

Note: Henry Arnold is listed in the Herald Almanac as a
boatbuilder, from 1893 1896. He sold his business
In 1902. The business was located at the foot of
William Street, on the river.

(ii)United Service Hotel

Note: Located, portion of Perth Town Lots L1 and L2,
originally granted to Rev. J.B. Wittenoom. The original
hotel owner was H.L Cole from 1839, then Henry
Strickland from 1865. The two portraits on the fa硤e
are likely of Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington.
The University of Western Australia acquired it c.1960.
It was demolished in 1968.
(iii)Old Perth Goal and Courthouse

Note: Built in 1856, fronting Beaufort Street. Its now
incorporated as part of the Museum, fully restored.
Designed by the then Clerk of Works, R.R Jewell,
primarily as a court house. In part used as a Goal until
1886.
(iv)Catholic Bishops Palace

Note: Built in c.1855, designed in a classical style and
still a prominent landmark in the Victoria Square
precinct.
(v) Swan River Mechanics Institute

Note: Founded in 1851, building commenced in 1852,
on the south-west corner of Pier and Hays Street. The
Museum section (shown), was opened in 1861.
(vi) The Barracks Building

Note: At the Western end of St. Georges Terrace, the
building was completed in 1866 to house soldiers of
The Enrolled Pensioner Force, later termed Guard.
They were originally tasked to guard the convicts and
later, protect the Colony when the regular troops left
in 1868. The two wings were demolished in 1966 but
the central archway remains.
