Kimberley Region, Western Australia. L: 37; W: 8; D: 1.5 cm & L: 36.2; W: 5.8; D: 0.8 cm & L: 25; W: 5; D: 1.2 cm. This group of three Kimberley tjuringa have regional variation, surface treatment, and function within Western Australian ceremonial practice. Two of the boards are decorated with linear incised designs characteristic of Kimberley carving traditions. The largest displays a tightly composed field of geometric patterning, its surface notably pale and sun-bleached. The second decorated example, also bearing linear motifs, has been pierced at one end. This feature suggests possible use as a bullroarer. Evidence of breakage and subsequent repair. The smallest of the three is undecorated but coated in ochre.
