A Preview of our Forthcoming Auction: ‘Art, Collectables and Furniture’ Tuesday 6th December 6pm (AWST) Catalogue Now Online

We are pleased to announce our penultimate auction for what has been a great year at McKenzies, held over one night only, featuring more than three hundred Lots of important Australian and International art, maps, carpets, rare Georgian furniture, luxury, and oriental art.

Some notable works of Australian art include Lot 43, a fine painting by Clifton Pugh from 1976 ‘Fallen Fences’ (oil on board, 90 x 120cms), estimated to sell between $8,000 – $12,000. Also from the same period, Pro Hart’s ‘Cleaning the Horse Yard’, 1974 (Lot 66, oil on board 60 x 69cms), has an estimate of between $6,000 and $9,000.

Margaret Benoit’s fine, small portrait head ‘Woman with Veil (Lot 1, oil on board 15 x 17cms) is expected to exceed its auction estimate – a particularly beautiful and sensitive work from this popular West Australian artist.

The iconic Lot 26 by David Boyd features as our catalogue cover, a joyful painting from 2003 titled “Angel, Europa and the Cockatoo” (oil on canvas 44 x 49cms), est.$10,000 – $15,000.

 

The oriental art section holds great appeal, with some fine porcelain, objects, and rare furniture. Standout pieces include Lot 163, a Tang Dynasty Pottery ‘Court Lady, est price. $10,000 – $15,000 (accompanied by TL Certificate from Laboratory Kotalla), and a most interesting late 19thc Qing Dynasty ‘Duan’ table screen, (Lot 158, $5,500 – $8,500), featuring dark red, carved and mottled stone representations of prunus blossoms, bamboo and rockwork – previously sold by Sothebys Australia 20 March 2019.

Small and exquisite collections of Chinese Snuff Bottles (Lots 169 and170), charming Japanese Netsuke (Lot 194) , and the exceptional Lot 225, a very rare Chinese Huanghuali plank table, are all generating interest – sold at Sotheby’s March 2019, Lot 225 is a substantial and impressive piece, with mother of pearl inlay, this Qing Dynasty ‘plank’ top, pedestal table worked with delicate flower-spray decorations has an estimated hammer-price of $16,000 -$26,000.
