Fine and Decorative Arts, Jewellery & Furniture

18th Jul 2017

Welcome to the Mid-year McKenzies Auctioneers catalogue. Bidding starts with art, 6:00pm 18th July.

The feature artwork is undoubtedly the major topographical work of Perth 1909, by John Campbell at lot 30. Such works are exceedingly rare and the best artist then, through to now, for such a work is John Campbell. McKenzies has sold most Campbells that have come onto the market and this is one of the best. Other fine works include a Bossevain “Poppies”, oil at lot five, a Whiteley Nude graphic at lot 8, a Norman Lindsay portrait at lot 16 as well as other collectable Australian artists such a Coburn, Juniper, Meston, Bromley, Haynes, Durack and others.

Jewellery commences at lot 109 with a rare gemstone. A 3.6ct natural alexandrite. The jewellery offering continues through to lot 205. The most collectable and sought after gemstones are all for genuine sale. Diamonds up to 8ct, sapphires, emeralds, rubies and some fine tanzanites. All in a broad range of settings by various makers. Often, items are offered with the previous owners insurance valuation certificates. They tend to reflect full replacement prices. As second hand items, we sell at whatever the market will bid, generally much less than the valuations.

There are seven wristwatch lots. Cartier, Omega, Tag Heuer and Longines are included.

The furniture offering in the sale is unique to Western Australia and presents a rare opportunity to acquire 18th century and earlier oak pieces. Estimates and reserves are very low which reflects the vendors intention to make sure all items find new homes. We expect they will.

The catalogue then moves to Australiana, Militaria, Carpets, mid 20th Century design, then Timepieces, Decorative arts and various collectables, finishing with oriental items and a good selection of antique sterling silver.

This is a diverse, wide ranging sale with something, that should appeal to any genuine collector.

Pre-auction viewing is online and in our rooms three days prior. Telephone, absentee and internet bidding are all available.

I look forward to your company at the sale.

Warm Regards,

Peter McKenzie
Managing Director
